| How
long and difficult are the daily hikes? |
Most
of our hikes cover 4 to 10 miles per day. We will be
walking on paved and unpaved roads or on trails in a
landscape which is generally gentle to moderately rolling.
On some hikes there will be a limited elevation gain,
but you do not need to be an expert hiker to join us
on our walks. If you are in good health, exercise, and
like to walk you can participate without any problem.
(At Italian Geographic, we have no upper age limit and
there is no need to have any previous outdoor experience.)
If you have any question, please email us at hike@italiangeographic.com
or call us (tel. 0039-06-78147420) and we will be happy
to give you all the additional information you need.

|
Your
safety is our biggest concern. Our hikes have been carefully
selected to be pleasant and never dangerous. All our
guides have been trained to live by the “Safety First”
rule while guiding. On each hike there will be at least
one guide who has had First-Aid training. |
| Is
personal Insurance included? |
Each
participant will be insured by us with Europe Assistance
Italia, Spa. The insurance policy is called “Medico
No Stop Italy”. You can obtain the details of this insurance
policy in English from the website: www.europassistance.it
We can also send you the PDF version by email. |
| How
many people will there be in the group? |
Apart
from our guides, there will be other participants (up
to a maximum of 16 people for each trip). You’ll meet
people from various parts of the world and therefore
with different backgrounds. This is another aspect of
our hikes which makes the trip even more interesting.
You are likely to make new friends along the way |
| Do
the guides speak English? |
Our
guides are all English speaking professionals with years
of experience in guiding groups through the areas where
we’ll be going, and they all love to share their knowledge
and experience with you. |
| How
many guides will accompany us? |
It
depends. On the hikes there will always be two guides,
one in front and one at the back to make sure that nobody
strays off. Both guides will carry powerful walkie-talkies
to keep in touch, if the group stretches out to much.
During the walks in Rome or other towns there’ll be
only one guide accompanying the group. |
| How
will we travel from one place to another? |
We
use large air conditioned luxury passenger vans or mini
busses to get around. There is more than enough room
for all of our luggage. You’ll find them comfortable
and fairly convenient. |
During
our days near Rome we will stay at the Agriturismo Borgo
di Tragliata, www.tragliata.it
Near San Gimignano we’ll stay in one of the following
hotels. www.pescille.it
or www.sovestrodapode.it
or www.hotelbelsoggiorno.it
All the hotels have en-suite facilities.
When booking a double room you should clearly request
either a double bed or twin beds, otherwise we’ll assume
that either is acceptable. Any three and four-bedded
rooms requested are usually twins with extra beds. These
rooms may not be suitable for adults and space will
inevitably be limited.
Note : Depending on availability Italian
Geographic, Ltd. reserves the right to change the
hotel for another similar hotel without further notice.
|
| Is
there internet access in our hotel? |
In
most of the hotels where we'll be staying there is internet
access, in those cases where there is no access, we
will find an alternative. |
On
our hikes we advise you to bring above-the-ankle hiking
boots, a comfortable backpack of 30 to 40 litres (8
/10 gallons), raingear. If you join us on a trip in
spring or autumn pack a fleece to keep you warm. For
those who do not want to tow around a backpack, please
note that we have them available for you free of charge
complete with a thermos.
We advise people who wear spectacles to take a spare
pair just in case.
|
| Will
I receive more information after I book a tour? |
Approximately
four weeks before the start of your tour, you will be
sent your tour pack by priority mail which contains
detailed information. [Overseas guests] should allow
up to 14 days for delivery. If you are an [overseas]
guest and you will not be at your home address 14 days
before the start date of the tour, you must notify us
upon booking.
|
| What
about Visas? Do I need to have a Visa? |
US,
Canadian, Australian, New Zealand and UK & EU Passport
holders do not, at present, require a VISA to enter
Italy.
|
If
you arrive in the morning of the starting day we will
collect you from either of the Rome airports, Leonardo
da Vinci Int. Airport at Fiumicino or Ciampino Airport.
If you come by train, we’ll meet you at Rome’s central
railway station (Termini). In the case you are already
in Rome, you will be given clear directions to reach
the hotel.

Rome: On the day of departure there will be time for
breakfast. Transportation will be provided and we'll
take you wherever you need to go in Rome.

Rome: On the day of departure there will be time for
breakfast. On our way back to Rome if you want to
